What is a “real” maker?

I'm sure we've all heard or read things from people who may indicate to you that you're not a "real" maker because you do XYZ. Or that you have to do things a certain way or you have to do it a certain number of times. I'm a firm believer in NO GATEKEEPING, but I'm compiling some anecdotes and discussions about the concept of what makes one a "real" maker. Think of it more like a MYTH and FACT sort of scenario.

I of course love Adam Savage's definition of a maker: using your point of view, you created something that didn't exist before. And that's about it.
